Katie was born with a tethered spinal cord and has had several surgeries over the past 10 years - having the House has kept us close during many long hospital stays. Having a place to escape from the hospital environment, take a shower, and wash laundry saves me from having to travel the 1.5 hours back and forth to our home.
One of our favourite memories is from when Katie was only 3-years-old. We stayed at the House in December when they open their Christmas Store and we were able to go "shopping" for presents for one another without leaving the House. Being in the hospital tends to put holidays on the back burner, but this meant we could still celebrate Christmas that year.
Today, Katie is a funny, sweet, spunky 10-year-old who loves riding horses and spending time with her brother. She has dreams of becoming an interior decorator, visiting the Rocky Mountains, and owning her own horse ranch one day!
To the people who throw their spare change in the collection box at McDonald's, and the businesses who choose RMH as their charity for donations, thank you! Thank you from a mom who never thought that a little bit of change would make it possible for me to always stay close to my baby at the hospital. There is no feeling like having a place that you can truly call “home-away-from-home” when you need that comfort more than anything.
Help spread awareness about your home-away-from-home in your community.
