The Howe Family,
Blenheim Ontario
Jill and Jed received the call no parent wants or expects to get on a typical weekday morning. Their teenage son, Brayden, was involved in a head-on motor vehicle collision on his way to school in Aril of 2023. Despite wearing his seatbelt, the accident left him with life-threatening injuries that led to surgery after surgery at London Children’s Hospital. Living over an hour away in Blenheim, a small town without any hospital, there was instant relief in knowing RMHC-SWO would provide a welcoming place to stay just steps away from the medical care their son desperately needed.
Many days felt like one step forward and two steps back as Brayden underwent multiple surgeries that the family hoped would give their 15-year-old son the normal life of sports and friends he had come to know. However, life back home doesn’t stop when a tragic accident strikes. Having a supportive place where Jill could stay close and feel taken care of for those 28 days allowed Jed to keep life somewhat normal at home for Alexa, Brayden’s younger sister. While there were many ups and downs, today the young man is back home and healing. Brayden’s mother truly feels it is because of the care and closeness she had at RMHC-SWO that she was able to show up strong for her son and advocate by his side.
Watching all the volunteers and staff buzzing around the House day after day, ensuring that our lives inside the home were taken care of, was such a beautiful blessing to witness. Our family is forever grateful for what this home did for us.
Watching movies and playing video games, just like home.
