Building Skills for Your Future

Rebecca's service with a smile

After learning about a friend’s exciting experience, Rebecca decided to join the volunteer team at Ronald McDonald House as well! Since 2014, she has happily assisted the families and guests both on the phone and throughout their stay by tending to the House’s Reception Desk. She has witnessed many memorable moments, but the most impactful are the ones when families finally get to go home with their child after a long stay at Ronald McDonald House.

“The moment that a family is leaving the house to go home is exceptional” Rebecca explains, “They display how grateful they are to have a place like Ronald McDonald House where they can unwind after a tough day.” An altruistic desire to help others was why Rebecca began to volunteer, but many other positive experiences have come from her time spent here.

I believe that this volunteer role helped me get my first job,' shares Rebecca, as her position at Ronald McDonald House provided her with many beneficial skills, 'But above all, you get to give back to others who are going through a difficult time – that is the best thing.

Rebecca discusses hearing stories from other volunteers, and how it creates an amazing community which is something you want to be a part of and makes you want to come back week after week. The commitment and passion of all the volunteers and staff was what made volunteering at Ronald McDonald House such a memorable experience for Rebecca.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT VOLUNTEERING?
