Ronald McDonald House Windsor is the first Canadian House-Within-A-Hospital, providing a "home-away-from-home" to parents directly inside the hospital just one floor above Windsor Regional Hospital's NICU. The Windsor community continues to show its support through community events, donations and, of course, volunteering! Whether they used the House themselves, or saw an opportunity to help, these volunteers know why they are here and how to make a difference.
Nicole, What's Your Why?
After staying at the Ronald McDonald House Windsor in 2016, I experienced firsthand the importance of staying close to our twin boys. Whenever I entered the House, I was greeted by many friendly faces. When life doesn't go as planned, having a space to connect with others, fill up on delicious food, have that long-awaited shower, and get some rest becomes life-giving. Being a part of that space is why I love volunteering at RMH.
Fatin, What's Your Why?
I started working as a GreenKlen housekeeper for the Ronald McDonald House in March of 2020. I saw how stressful it can be for parents with children in the hospital to take time to rest and recuperate. Volunteers were unable to come to the house over the pandemic so to help out I began coming in once a week before my cleaning shift so I could prepare home-cooked meals for the families. Seeing how impactful a homemade meal can be has motivated me to continue as an official House volunteering.
Help spread awareness about your home-away-from-home in your community.
