The RM Family Room London relies on volunteers to bring the comforts of home directly to families in-hospital with their seriously ill children. They keep the sleep rooms cozy, fill the cupboard with snacks, and act as the listening ear to caregivers who just need someone to talk to. These volunteers provide some calm in the storm for many parents whose lives have been turned upside down with the diagnosis of their sick children. We see how they do it, but we wanted to know why...
Gail, What's your "Why"?
It's a small way of giving back for what Ronald McDonald did for our family, specifically one of our 4 grandsons who was in treatment at London Health Sciences Centre for 3 years. We were so grateful for the help, support and assistance provided to our family over that period. For me personally, by volunteering, I find I get back so much more than I could have imagined. I do believe in RMH as a wonderful charitable organization.
Ray, What's your why
I started volunteering 30+ years ago at my children's day care and continued volunteering at their school throughout the years. When my daughter, who is now a nurse at the Children's Hospital in London, told me about Ronald McDonald House being in need of volunteers I did not think twice and applied the next day. Volunteering is a blessing in disguise.”
