Individual Volunteer Opportunities


Volunteers are the heart and soul of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Southwestern Ontario. We rely on our team of dedicated volunteers who play a valuable role in the day-to-day running of RMH London, the RM Family Room London, and with our special events and fundraising opportunities.

Multiple opportunities are now available!


We are currently accepting Volunteers for weekend shifts at the RMHC London House, and Family Room Volunteer Host shifts. We are also in need of "Cart with the Heart" Volunteers.

 

Cart with the Heart

A Cart with a Heart (CWAH) volunteer is responsible for operating a mobile hospitality cart within units of LHSC Children’s Hospital. They play an integral role in promoting the use of the RMHC Family Room, which creates a warm and inviting atmosphere for caregivers to relax and recharge.

Time Commitment: Weekly or bi-weekly

Shift Times: Daily, 9:00-11:00am, 2:00-4:00pm

 

Community Event Ambassador

The Community Event Ambassador serves as a representative of RMHC-SWO, supporting the organization’s mission to “keep families close" for families with seriously ill children. This role involves promoting RMHC-SWO’s programs, assisting with and ensuring the success of community events, building relationships with partners.

Time Commitment: Length of event or initiative, plus prep time as needed

Shift Times: Varies, evenings and weekends

 

Host - Family Room

A Family Room Host is responsible for welcoming visiting families into the RMHC Family Room located in Children’s Hospital. Family Room Hosts play an integral role in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for all who visit the Family Room.

Time Commitment: Weekly or bi-weekly

Shift Times: Daily, 9:00am-1:00pm, 1:00-5:00pm, 5:00-8:00pm

 

House Ambassador

A Volunteer House Ambassador is responsible for welcoming guest families and visitors into the London House. House Ambassadors play an integral role in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for all who come into contact with RMH.

Time Commitment: Weekly or bi-weekly

Shift Times: Daily, 9:00am-12:00pm, 12:00-4:00pm, 5:00-8:00pm

 

House Refresher

A Volunteer House Refresher is responsible for ensuring a clean and comfortable “home away from home” and seamless experience for our guest families.

Time Commitment: Weekly or bi-weekly

Hours: Daily, 9:00am-12:00pm, 12:00-4:00pm, 5:00-8:00pm

 

Kitchen & Dining Room Support

A Kitchen & Dining Support Volunteer plays an important role in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for our guests. They are responsible for ensuring that our guest families always have access to fresh and nutritious food, and experience smooth and reliable dinner services during their stay.

Time Commitment: Weekly

Hours: Daily, flexible 9:00am-12:00pm, 5:00pm-8:00pm


Kitchen Assistant

A Volunteer Kitchen Assistant is responsible for providing direct support to our Nutrition & Wellness Team as it relates to efficient program delivery, ensuring the guest experience remains of paramount importance.

Time Commitment: Weekly

Hours: Daily, flexible hours

 

Maintenance Support

A Maintenance Support volunteer is responsible for providing a broad spectrum of upkeep, repair and preventative maintenance functions as directed by the Maintenance Coordinator. Specific accountabilities include painting, appliance repair, minor facilities repair, carpentry and regularly scheduled Ronald McDonald House London maintenance.

Time Commitment: Weekly or bi-weekly

Shift Times: Tuesday to Friday, 9:00am-12:00pm, 12:00-4:00pm

FAQS

  • How old do I have to be to volunteer at the London House?

    You must be 18 years of age or older to apply to volunteer and a minimum commitment of six months is expected. While we’d love to have you here more often, volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two volunteer shifts per month. Volunteers may select from a variety of shifts. We will work together to find a role that meets your availability and schedule.

  • How old do I have to be to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald Family Room?

    Ronald McDonald Family Room volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to be eligible.

  • I want to volunteer with a group, where do I start?

  • What is required to volunteer?

    After submitting your volunteer application, we will:

    • You will be sent more resources about what to expect and the volunteer opportunities available.
    • Invite you for an interview to learn more about your interests so we can find the best volunteer role for you - any further requirements will be discussed.
    • Check references.

    To volunteer we ask that you:

    • Have a clear Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check, completed in the last 12 months.
    • Sign a privacy and confidentiality form and a code of conduct form.
    • Complete additional screening which includes a health review to ensure your immunizations are up to date and a 2-step TB test completed by Occupational Health at LHSC (to volunteer in our Family Room Program within Children’s Hospital).
  • Who can stay at the Windsor House?

    Families of a child (under 18) receiving treatment in Windsor Regional Hospital for a serious illness or injury.
