Individual Volunteer Opportunities


Volunteers are the heart and soul of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Southwestern Ontario. We rely on our team of dedicated volunteers who play a valuable role in the day-to-day running of RMH London, the RM Family Room London, and with our special events and fundraising opportunities.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES


House Support (London House)

For the individual who likes to keep busy. House Support volunteers are vital in ensuring a warm and inviting atmosphere and a clean and comfortable “home away from home.” This position can be found greeting caregivers and visitors upon arrival, answering phones, organizing the common areas, stocking supplies, light housekeeping, and making coffee.

Shifts Needing Coverage:

  • Tuesday: 5 - 8 pm
  • Wednesday: 5 - 8 pm
  • Weekends: all shifts 

Kitchen Support (London House)

For the individual who loves to be in the kitchen. Kitchen Support volunteers help assist nightly dinner groups in setting up to prepare a meal for guest families, as well as serving and kitchen clean-up as needed. Shifts can be 4-8 pm or 5-8 pm depending on your availability. 

Family Room Volunteer 

Volunteer inside the Family Room located within L.H.S.C Children's Hospital and play a key role in the daily operations by greeting, screening, and welcoming visitors upon arrival, taking overnight referrals and checking guests in and out of the sleep rooms, providing tours of the space, answering phone calls and ensuring the spaces are clean and comfortable for caregivers.

Available Shifts:

  • Monday: 9 am -1 pm (bi-weekly)
  • Tuesday: 1 - 5 pm (weekly or bi-weekly)
  • Thursday: 1 - 5 pm (weekly or bi-weekly)
  • Friday: 5 - 8 pm (weekly or bi-weekly)
  • Saturday: 1 - 5 pm (weekly or bi-weekly)
  • Saturday: 5 - 8 pm (bi-weekly)
  • Sunday: 1 - 5 pm (weekly or bi-weekly)
  • Sunday: 5 - 8 pm (bi-weekly)

  • What is your COVID-19 policy for volunteering at the London Programs?

    We follow the London Health Sciences Centre and Middlesex London Health Unit policies. Currently, masks are not required but we do ask in-House and Family Room volunteers to have 2 COVID-19 vaccinations.

  • How old do I have to be to volunteer at the London House Location?

    You must be 18 years of age or older to apply to volunteer and a minimum commitment of six months is expected. While we’d love to have you here more often, volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two volunteer shifts per month. Volunteers may select from a variety of shifts. We will work together to find a role that meets your availability and schedule.

  • How old do I have to be to volunteer at the RM Family Room?

    Ronald McDonald Family Room volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to be eligible.
  • I want to volunteer with a group, where do I start?

  • What is required to volunteer?

    After submitting your volunteer application we will:

    • ask you to attend an information session to learn more about RMHC-SWO
    • invite you for an interview to learn more about your interests so we can find the best volunteer role for you - any further requirements will be discussed
    • check references  

    To volunteer we ask that you:

    • have a clear Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check 
    • be double vaccinated against COVID-19 due to the immune compromisation of children staying with us
    • have a single-step TB test (to volunteer at the London House)
    • complete additional screening/documents which include a health review to ensure you are up to date in your immunizations (to volunteer in our Family Room Program within Children’s Hospital)
